SC Gjøa Youth Soccer holds training sessions in a number of locations around South Brooklyn including the Parade Grounds, Red Hook Fields, Dyker Beach Park, Leif Ericson Park and more. Typically, Travel teams train twice a week outdoors in fall and spring, and once a week indoors in winter. The Gjøa Youth Development Program (professional coaching without league games) is held once a week in Fall and Spring.
Here are important dates for 2015/2016
Wednesday, September 9: Travel training schedule begins.
September 14, 15, 23 and 24: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur- Travel training sessions are ON for those that can attend.
Monday, October 12: Columbus Day - no training.
Monday, November 2: Training move indoors. (Tentative, team managers will confirm).
Tuesday, November 3: Election Day - no training (unless manager and coach confirm an outdoor session for your team).
Wednesday, November 11: Veteran’s Day - no training (unless manager and coach confirm an outdoor session for your team).
Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27: Thanksgiving - no training.
Thursday, December 24 through Friday, January 1: Holiday Break - no training. Resume Monday, January 4.
Monday, January 18: MLK Day, no training.
Monday, February 8: Lunar New Year, no training.
Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19: Midwinter Recess - no training. Resume Monday, February 22.
Monday, March 14: Practices tentatively return outdoors, weather permitting, details tbd.
Friday, March 25: Good Friday - no training (unless manager and coach confirm an outdoor session for your team).
Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29: Spring Recess - no training. Resume Monday, May 2.
Monday, May 30: Memorial Day - No practices (though tournaments a possibility).
Wednesday and Thursday, June 8 and 9: last training dates for Spring 2016. (Tentative, club, coaches and team managers will confirm).
