SC Gjøa Youth Soccer is a non-profit Brooklyn-based soccer club for girls and boys ages 4 to 18 years old. Our youth program was started by Norwegian immigrants in 1918, making Gjøa the oldest soccer club in NYC, and we're very proud of our Norwegian roots. Currently, the club has close to 500 participants each year.
It's simple: we believe that most kids can benefit from well-coached, well-organized youth sports. Removing the profit motive allows us to place the best interests of our kids first, keep fees as low as possible, and make our program accessible to as many kids as possible, regardless of ability to pay. Non-profit vs. for-profit should be an important consideration for all parents when comparing youth sports programs.
Our Coaching Philosophy
SC Gjøa Youth Soccer starts with the premise that growth within the game of soccer is not only beneficial to health and development in sport, but also in developing life skills such as teamwork, goal-setting, and overcoming adversity. We strive to create an environment where girls and boys of all ages can learn and compete in a positive and productive way, providing a platform from which our players can improve and grow.
Our curriculum is based on an attacking, possession-based style of soccer where each player has the opportunity for many touches of the ball. Regardless of age or level, Gjøa players are encouraged to play the beautiful game in a technical and attractive style, taking risks and playing creatively.
